London's best birthday restaurants

The plates are cleared. The waiters retreat to the kitchen. All is well, all is good. Suddenly, like a noxious mist, a hush falls across the London restaurant. The lights dim, and shadows lick across the walls. Candlelight. A cold sweat runs slowly down your back. The first words of that age-old song begin "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU...".

If this vision of hell incarnate brings you to a shivering mess, fear not. London's restaurants don't have to be a cruel exercise in social paranoia. There are many great dining options in the capital that you book out for yourself and have full control over any singing salutations to another year passed.

And, if you do want a song, we're sure they'll accommodate. You masochist.

3. As spacious as you like: SAMA Bankside

Southwark, London

SAMA Bankside – the industrial chic, as spacious as you like two-storey bar, restaurant, and event space. We like SAMA for a London birthday restaurant for a couple of reasons.

First, there's something about the re-purposed exposed brick Victorian railway arches that make for a great party and event space. SAMA makes great use of its space by having a bar on each floor, a private dining room, and transforming the restaurant space into an event space allowing you to throw a birthday party for up to 300 guests (standing). The Lower Arch has a capacity of 70 standing guests if you're looking for something a little smaller but still spacious.

The good folks at SAMA are a dab hand at transforming their space for all types of birthdays (and events for that matter), offering an array of seating arrangements, modern British menus and all the party drinks you could want for a birthday. SAMA are as professional as they come and know their trade well, the space is great and has that party vibe you're looking for.

Finding and booking a birthday restaurant in London

If you're planning to celebrate your birthday in London, choosing the perfect restaurant can make all the difference. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide on the right one. Here's a guide to help you choose and book a birthday restaurant in London.

Determine your budget: Before you start looking for restaurants, determine your budget. This will help you narrow down your options and ensure that you don't overspend.

Decide on the type of cuisine: London is a melting pot of different cultures, and you can find restaurants that offer cuisines from all over the world. Decide on the type of cuisine you'd like to have on your birthday and look for restaurants that specialize in that cuisine.

Consider the location: London is a big city, and it's important to consider the location of the restaurant. Choose a restaurant that is easily accessible and located in a convenient area for your guests.

Read reviews: Research online for reviews and recommendations from previous customers. Check restaurant review websites like TripAdvisor, Yelp, and OpenTable to see what people are saying about the restaurant you're considering.

Check the menu: Look at the menu of the restaurant to see if they offer the type of dishes that you and your guests would enjoy. Check for special dietary requirements and make sure there are options for everyone.

Book in advance: Once you've found the perfect restaurant, book your table well in advance. London is a busy city, and popular restaurants can get booked up quickly, especially on weekends.

Consider private dining: If you're looking for a more intimate dining experience, consider booking a private dining room in the restaurant. This can be a great way to celebrate with friends and family without the distraction of other diners. Headbox can match you with some of the best private dining restaurants in London.

Check for special offers: Many restaurants in London offer special birthday deals, such as a complimentary dessert or a glass of champagne. Check the restaurant's website or call ahead to see if they have any special offers for birthday celebrations.

Confirm your booking: A few days before your reservation, call the restaurant to confirm your booking and let them know if there are any changes to your party size or dietary requirements.

Choosing and booking a birthday restaurant in London can be a fun and exciting experience. By following these tips, you can ensure that your celebration is a memorable one.
