Our selection of the top City of London team-building activity venues

The City of London isn’t all meeting rooms and pubs servicing the suited office workers a cheeky lunchtime pint. There are several places to take your team out so they can interact outside the confines of the office and their respective job roles – let’s be honest, we call it ‘team-building’ but, actually, it's the chance to let loose and do something other than talk about work and what everybody is cooking for dinner whilst eating their lunch in the break room.

We’ve compiled several types of team-building activities to give you some inspiration.

1. No driving licenses required: F1 Arcade

St Paul's, London

From full venue hire to semi-private area and private rooms, F1 Arcade offers one of the most unique team-building experiences in the City of London with its plethora of bespoke arcade F1 racing simulators. There is an events team on hand to plan and organise your team-building event, freeing you up to enjoy the activities along with everyone else.

The Briefing Room is F1 Arcade’s private room with a capacity of 90 people and offers eight racing simulators, a private bar, and outstanding views of nearby St Paul’s Cathedral. With a range of drinks and curated menus to choose from, F1 Arcade offers the entire package for a team-building day out. If we’re being honest, the experience does evoke those childhood memories of playing arcade games – it’ll be hard to find someone on your team who won’t like this.

2. Just hope there are no tone-deaf people in your team: Lucky Voice Liverpool Street

Liverpool Street, London

It’s not for everybody and some people only lean into it if they’ve had a drink (or a couple). Still, karaoke has long been a team-building activity, so much so there are stereotypes associated with it – the Adeles who can actually sing, will probably sing “Let It Go”, and hog the mic most of the night. The dark horse of accounting (or HR or some other quiet department) who comes out rapping Eminem without needing the karaoke prompt. The person who thinks they’re Celine Dion and can’t understand why everybody is laughing during their rendition of “My Heart Will Go On”.

If you’re still deadset on karaoke for your team-building activity then there’s no place in the City of London like Lucky Voice near Liverpool Street Station. The venue consists of 9 karaoke rooms with each room accommodating between 4 to 25 people. The rooms offer state-of-the-art technology, and ample food and drink menus. They supply everything you need for a night of karaoke, but the talent (or lack thereof) is entirely on you to provide.

3. Competitive and requiring focus and skill: 180 Club at Austin Friars Balls Brothers

Liverpool Street, London

Austin Friars Balls Brothers bar and restaurant is right around the corner from Liverpool Street Station and offers a competitive team-building activity that requires pretty much all of your attention to do with skill: darts. The 180 Club offers fast, multi-player games and two oches (the line you stand behind when throwing darts) for you and your team with a capacity of up to 30 people.

The 180 Club is the only dedicated darts club in the City of London and it’s a relaxed location, ideal for a team-building event with nibbles, drinks, and darts enjoyed in the privacy of your own space. The debate is still out about how long a group of people will find throwing a pointy object at a bullseye and missing entertaining, but it’s definitely one way to bond.

4. One of the most popular City of London team-building venues: Swingers

Aldgate, London

Swingers is right near the Gherkin in Aldate, equidistant to Liverpool Street and Aldgate stations. We’d be surprised if you hadn’t heard of this chain of crazy golf, it’s wildly popular and a great one for competitive socialising.

Swingers is housed in an 18000 sq ft basement and comprised of two 9-hole crazy golf courses – the Lighthouse course and the Windmill course – three street food vendors, five cocktail bars, and a two-storey clubhouse.

Several spaces within Swingers can be booked for private hire or you can book the entirety with a capacity of 500, but if you need space for 500, that’s not a team-building activity anymore, that’s just a company outing.

5. Nothing says ‘bonding’ like going through something terrifying together: No Escape Aldgate

Aldgate, London

Brought to you by No Escape London, the Aldgate location is a couple of minutes from Aldgate East Station in the Spitalfields direction and offers a horror-themed escape room. Possibly one of the smallest City of London team-building events with a maximum group size of 6 people priced at £35 per person, but you can contact the venue directly about a special events booking.

The gist of it is that you and your team are specialists hired to investigate the disappearance of the butcher’s daughter and you don’t know how you’ve become locked inside.

Admittedly not for everybody, there’s no denying the popularity of escape rooms and it’s ideal if you have a smaller team or only want to do something that lasts a couple of hours. It has a difficulty level of 4 out of 5 and lasts for up to 90 minutes.
