The best karaoke spots in Koreatown, NYC

New York City might be the best city in the world for a lot of things (if we do say so ourselves) but no one does karaoke quite like Seoul. Overworked businessmen sing their hearts out in hole-in-the-wall noraebangs, and the younger crowd parties with friends until the early hours of the morning. Koreatown offers a slice of this exciting culture in the heart of the Big Apple.

Whether it’s K-pop, Taylor Swift, or something a little more niche, these Koreatown karaoke venues offer it all. Just don’t expect to be as good as the locals.

1. A nostalgic karaoke spot for music lovers: Radio Star

Midtown, New York

The interior of Radio Star is a love letter to the history of music: rare antique microphones and radios decorate the main space and hallways, and private rooms pay homage to stars like Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, and Elvis. There are 9 private rooms of varying sizes, from 2-5 in the Duet Room to up to 40 in the Radio Room. Each room is colorful and intentionally decorated with layers of nostalgia.

Rates begin at $50/hr for smaller rooms and $175 for the largest room. Enjoy food like yuzu chili edamame, potstickers, and wings, and get a little liquid courage with signature cocktails, beer/wine, and soju. Catering menus and open bar packages are available for larger groups.

2. If Blade Runner needed a karaoke break: Muses 35

Midtown, New York

The unassuming rustic bar of this Koreatown karaoke joint hides the futuristic, neon-draped rooms upstairs. Muses 35 offers a lavish karaoke experience, with unique lighting and seating configurations available in each private room. Rooms are available for $40/hr for up to 4 guests and $10/hr for each additional guest.

House cocktails, beer, soju bombs, and cocktails can be purchased, and there’s a 20% off Happy Hour at the bar between 5 and 8 pm, in case you want to warm up before your big performance. Open bar packages are offered for parties of 5 or more. Getting hungry? Order K-classics like kimchi bokkeumbap, Korean fried chicken, and mandu.

3. A simple, authentic karaoke den: Gagopa Karaoke

Midtown, New York

When the people bring the party, the venue doesn’t need bells and whistles. This old-school Koreatown karaoke venue feels like somewhere you’d wander into late at night on the streets of Seoul. You might think you’re headed up to a doctor’s office, but up a slightly unsettling set of stairs is Gagopa Karaoke. With over 20,000 English songs, 10,000 Spanish songs, and plenty in other languages like Korean and Japanese, you could say these guys know their stuff.

It’s BYOB and BYOF, making for an inexpensive and fun party option. Rates are $36/hr for up to 5 people, with $9 per person per hour after that. There’s a big room for up to 30 people, and it’s open until 4 AM 7 days a week. If New York is the city that never sleeps, Seoul is a close second.

4. Dress to impress at this upscale Koreatown karaoke venue: Maru Karaoke Lounge

Midtown, New York

This bi-level karaoke lounge is fancier than your average sticky-floored karaoke joint. There’s a dress code, so no flip flops, shorts, cargo pants, tank tops, or sweats – and the bouncers can turn you away at the door. But if you come straight from your Midtown office job ready to de-stress with a too-intense interpretation of Bohemian Rhapsody, you should be safe.

The ultra-modern interior is like stepping into a spaceship, with colorful neon lights and sleek furniture. The karaoke rooms require a reservation, and start at $60/hr for up to 6 people, with an additional $10/hr for each added guest. Happy hour is Sunday to Thursday from 6 to 9, and you can save 50% on Karaoke Rooms, or opt for the special rate of $30/person which includes two drink vouchers. Packages are also available for larger groups of up to 12 guests, with bottles and large food platters of wings, kimchi fries, or bulgogi nachos.

5. A futuristic karaoke venue in Koreatown: Chorus Karaoke

Midtown, New York

The rooms at Chorus Karaoke are draped in silver, with glittering interiors that, if you look closer, are decorated with iconic album covers throughout history. There are several private rooms, as well as a main lounge, where you can perform in front of strangers if you’re feeling extra brave.

Each room is $40/hr for up to 4 guests, and an added $5 for each additional guest. Bottle packages are available, which include 2h of karaoke, spirits, beers, soju, and food like wings or nachos. Open bar packages are offered for groups of 15 or more, and weekday specials are served at the bar. Cocktails are, of course, music-themed, like Uptown Funk and Like A Prayer.
