1. A sky-high rooftop bar in the microcosm of FiDi: Overstory
Financial District, NYC
A night at Overstory feels like one in a spaceship. You fly up 64 stories and look out over the sparkling landscape of New York, building lights like stars, the city a mini universe below. The 360-degree panoramic windows keep the views central inside the bar, with sleek Art Deco furniture, a light-up bar, and a disco ball adding to the contemporary atmosphere. Though Overstory knows the views are the selling point, they want to make that secondary to the drinks – their cocktails have landed them on the World’s Best Bars list consistently since opening (No. 17 at the time of writing). You’ll find Pink Tuxedo – an ode to the bartender’s signature uniforms – a vermouth, absinthe, and vodka-based drink with cherry blossom and strawberry, as well as other drinks with creative twists of sumac, lime leaf, and barley.
The intimate 588 sq. ft. venue can accommodate up to 60 standing guests.
