3. The perfect den hidden within a warren of streets: The Function Room at The Fox

Shoreditch, London

You have to know the warren of streets in Shoreditch south of Old Street, it’s easy to mistake this neighbourhood for only offering trendy offices punctuated by the occasional eatery and coffee shop. But every once in a while, you feel pleasantly surprised to come across a pub in what normally feels like a desert between Shoreditch and Moorgate.

The Fox is one such pub. It’s only a couple of minutes from Old Street Station’s Cowper Street exit, a lovely old two-storey traditional pub with a cheeky fox painted on its sign. There’s a function room for private dining on the first floor of the Fox that’s so great for a casual, relaxed pub gathering.

The function room is bright with plenty of windows from the pub’s corner location, and features wooden floors, and a handsome fireplace. It can accommodate 80 standing and comes with a private bar and direct access to an outdoor terrace. The Coop pop-up caters to the patrons at the Fox, offering a standout menu of East and South East Asian classics.

The smokehouse-inspired restaurant combines theatre, flames and food into a full-body experience which will leave you stuffed and probably quite dizzy. Expect a menu heavy in tacos and meat platters, all washed down with some big-flavour cocktails that are worth the trip in their own right.

The adjoining bar can be hired out, with food brought in from the main restaurant, catering to up to 60 guests. Probably one for your carnivore mates.

How to hire a private dining room in Shoreditch

Planning a private dining event in Shoreditch? The colourful and sedimented history of Shoreditch has blessed the district with a cosmopolitan food scene that draws inspiration from every corner of the globe. What’s even better is that lots of these incredible eateries are offering private dining options.

Keep reading and let this guide get you one step closer to that perfect first bite.

What kind of private dining experience are you looking for?

There are a lot of options out there and, to be honest, it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. No one wants to spend their free time scrolling endlessly through venue after venue, desperately trying to make a decision based on a thumb-sized photo of some canapés. To make the most of your time it’s worth having an idea of what kind of food you’re looking for in your private dining event. Do you want to put on a full gourmet spread to impress at your corporate lunch? Or are you and your friends looking for a private space to have a few drinks, a quick bite to eat and… a few more drinks?

It’s important to let the venue know of any dietary restrictions your party has as soon as possible. Or, alternatively, let us know any allergies or preferences you have and we’ll ensure only relevant venues reach out to host your private dining event.

Top tip: It’s also worth considering some of the less traditional private dining options. Shoreditch is host to a wealth of food venues that let you take part in the cooking process. How does tossing your own pizza dough sound? How about making pasta from scratch? There are lots of venues that get you involved in the cooking process and don’t worry - you won’t have to wash up after.

Know your budget

The key to planning a successful private dining room is budgeting well. No one likes nasty surprises at the end of a good meal so make sure you know your upper spending limit before you order that last helping of profiteroles. A budget should be allocated per person – this gives you maximum control over both the overall cost and the cost per person. HeadBox will do all the calculations for you and make sure everything stays within your set budget.

Location, location, location

Shoreditch has its own distinctive feel and character. Shoreditch High Street, Great Eastern Street and Old Street are all full of restaurants offering private dining rooms. If alcohol is going to be involved then you’ll want to be within easy reach of public transport or, for the super organised, book your taxis before, to guarantee a swift arrival and departure. Luckily, Shoreditch High Street station and Old Street station are all within walking distance of the most popular restaurants.

Make sure you set the agenda

This is your private dining event – you should set the criteria for the venues to meet. Want an outside area? Natural light flooding the room? Have a preference on seating style? Tell us exactly what private dining experience you want, where you want it, and when you want it. We’ll do the rest.
