It still likes to market itself as Dalston’s best-kept secret but we’re fairly certain Dalston Roof Park is one of the most well-known rooftop bars in the entire borough of Hackney. 360-degree views of the London skyline, two self-service bars, cool beer brands, premium spirits, and cocktails. A sun-trap in summer and covered and heated in winter, Dalston Roof Park is hard to beat.

Music events and DJ sets on a bangin’ sound system, yoga classes, and Caribbean soul food, Dalston Roof Park makes the most of its rooftop space year-round. A table booking is recommended, especially in the warmer months of the year, and if you’re after a large indoor event space, FH3 is 5,400 square feet of industrial warehouse space with panoramic views of East London. All this just a couple minutes’ walk from Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland stations.

The Marksman is a public house and dining room on Hackney Road, closest to Hoxton Overground Station. The former Victorian pub serves an exceptional restaurant menu, great local beers, ales, and ciders alongside a selection of carefully curated wines and spirits, and offers a select few tables on a rooftop terrace.

With lush interiors, decent cocktails, and Californian-inspired small plates, the Rooftop at One Hundred Shoreditch is a top Hackney rooftop bar with stunning views of the City and the London skyline beyond. The best part? The Rooftop bar & terrace can be exclusively hired for parties and events.

You can find subtle nods to the California/Palm Springs influence in the colour scheme, decor, and plethora of potted succulents and cacti, and a year-round rooftop terrace that would make you forget you were in East London if it weren’t for the stellar views of the City. We’d like to give honourable mention to The Rooftop’s Margarita – you can’t claim Californian influence without being able to do a mean margarita.

Possibly one of the cosiest rooftop bars on our list, the rooftop terrace at TT Liquor is a year-round bar that caters to private parties and events. It has a retractable roof that you won’t see in summer yet keeps the terrace warm and cosy during winter. Wooden decking, furniture, and booths with the comfiest cushions, blue skies during the day, epic sunsets, and mood lighting by night.

TT Liquor’s roof terrace has a generous capacity of 110 and serves a seasonal drinks menu of cocktails, spritzes, wine, and draft beers. Other offerings from TT Liquor include a ground-floor liquor store and a dedicated space for cocktail-making classes.

The Queen of Hoxton is closer to Liverpool Street Station than it is to its namesake station, but the Queen of Hoxton it shall remain. If you don’t already know it, you really should. Its rooftop bar has been part of the Shoreditch skyline for a while now, with its generous views of City skyscrapers and annually changing themes in summer and winter.

In winter, sip Hot Buttered Rum whilst seated around a roaring fire, and in summer, soak up the sun with cocktails that cool you down. From club nights to brunch, the Queen of Hoxton is all about theme and changing it up based on the season. If only the surrounding offices were filled late at night, oh the things they would see looking down on this Hackney rooftop bar.

As you move away from the City, deeper into the borough of Hackney, the rooftop bars become rarer as well, but just off Hoxton Street there is a four-storey pub – that’s a whole lotta pub – and with it comes a fireplace, a games room, a pool table, plenty of lounges and sofas, and pizza. Ok, so it feels a little like a student hostel, but the best part is the Red Lion’s rooftop looking out over Hoxton and Shoreditch, and it is this roof terrace that’s earned it a place on this list – that and the pool table if we’re being honest.
