calong london

1. Cálong

Stoke Newington, London

When the long January nights start to seem unbearably dreary and cold, warm up with unique Korean dishes with the likes of kimchi risotto or spicy seafood soup noodles, Jjampong, but made with seared pollock, mussel and courgette. Think seasonal, elevated Korean dishes but still simple, relaxed, and delicious. Once a popular pop-up, Cálong is opening its doors as the first solo venture from Chef Joo Won whose seven years as Head Chef at Galvin at Windows saw the awarding of a Michelin star. Cálong is a love letter to Joo Won's Korea blended with French and European cooking and plenty of wines.

Opening in January 2025.

tamila king's cross

2. Tamila

King's Cross, London

The Tamil Prince team only recently opened casual eatery Tamila in Battersea but we have it on good authority that a second Tamila is opening in King's Cross... any day (we're really hoping it's open by January so we can warm up with rotis and curries). Like the sister Tamila in Battersea, we can expect more delicious and casual South Indian dishes like mutton curry dosa and paneer butter masala and we can't think of a better way to fend off the January blues.

Opening this winter (read: hopefully soon).

la mome london

3. La Môme at The Berkeley

Knightsbridge, London

With two restaurants in Cannes and Monaco, the Berkeley Hotel will host the first London incarnation of brothers Ugo and Antoine Lecorché's glamorous La Môme. No Scandi minimalism here, expect signature classics and bold flavours of the South of France: huge crudo platters, rack of lamb with pine nuts, and fish of the day, all in elegant surroundings worthy of the Knightsbridge postcode.

Opening in January 2025.

voyage adam simmonds

4. Voyage with Adam Simmonds

King's Cross, London

Voyage with Adam Simmonds is set to be on a par with Simmonds' work at Danesfield House, with a Scandinavian-influenced menu to feature oysters with fermented apple and white asparagus and venison with ember-roasted beetroot, blackberry vinegar and thyme crumb. The Scandinavian influence is being taken into the fully redesigned dining room all set within The Megaro Hotel in King's Cross.

Opening in January 2025.

luna wine bar

5. Luna

Shad Thames, London

A wood-panelled, candlelit wine bar, bottle shop and restaurant is coming to the Thames Path. The small twenty-eight-seater venue (by the team behind Legare) promises to bring the classic comforts of a cosy London wine bar to one of the most spectacular spots along the river. The thought of drinking a biodynamic red while Tower Bridge twinkles in the background is getting us very, very hyped.

Opening in spring 2025.

gordon ramsay 22 bishopsgate

6. Gordon Ramsay at 22 Bishopsgate

Bishopsgate, City of London

There are some fundamental certainties weaved into the fabric of the universe: every action in the universe produces a reaction; Arsenal will bottle the Premier League; Gordon Ramsey will continue to open restaurants.

The latest opening from the world’s foremost swearing chef is less of a venue and more of a complex. FIVE different culinary outposts are coming to London’s tallest office block (it’s the one next to the Cheesegrater). The roster travels the breadth of the GR expanded universe: casual diners can get a meal and drink at Bread Street Kitchen bar and grill. Asian food enthusiasts are satiated with Lucky Cat (which also boasts a roof terrace). At the same time, those wanting fine dining can enjoy the quarter-centenarian Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. Finally, there is the Gordon Ramsay Academy, which gives classes in everything from pasta-making to mixology, including perfecting the classic beef Wellington.

Opening in February 2025.

jamie oliver

7. Jamie Oliver at John Lewis

Oxford Circus, London

As if one celebrity chef opening in London wasn’t enough, Jamie Oliver has teamed up with John Lewis to bring us a new venue to their Oxford Street flagship in spring 2025.

There must be some regular convening of huge chef brand marketing departments because this outlet is also offering cooking masterclasses. Jamie himself said the venue will feature “two big and beautiful cookery classrooms, a demo theatre and a beautiful cafe”.

Opening in spring 2025.

boxhall liverpool street

8. BoxHall City

Liverpool Street, London

Avid fans of containers and gentrification were left distraught this year after the iconic Shoreditch Boxpark announced 2024 to be its final year in operation. The somewhat controversial outlet started an unstoppable wave of small businesses selling you expensive postcards and over-engineered burgers, with the obligatory nose-ringed reformed goth manning the till.

Dry your eyes, because Boxpark has morphed into BoxHall. Coming after the popular foodhalls that seem to duplicate in London faster than the rats, Boxhall promises ‘an eclectic and exciting collection of culinary concepts, steeped in heritage-rich settings.’ The Liverpool Street location will probably ensure some success, and give a good space to highlight some of London’s excellent pop-up food culture. The key question though: will there be boxes?
